DEPARTMENT OF THORACIC SURGERY

About The Ward

Thoracic Surgery ward specialises in complex treatment of patients with respiratory system, mediastinum and oesophagus diseases.

The ward is equipped in high class diagnostic equipment:

  • bronchofiberoscope (endoscopic diagnosis of lung lesions)
  • EBUS - endobronchial ultrasound (mainly lymphatic nodes - diagnosis of sarcoidosis or determination of the stage of progression of lung cancer)
  • computed tomograph

The operating theatres are equipped in modern devices for minimally invasive surgical procedures. We provide diagnostics using minimally invasive techniques:

  • video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery - examination of pleural cavity (diagnosing pleural lesions)
  • video-assisted mediastinoscopy - surgical removal of lymph nodes or lesion biopsy
  • VATS - video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery
  • TEMLA - transcervical extended mediastinal lymphadenectomy

The ward currently has 25 beds.

Specialists from the ward consult patients in the Thoracic Surgery Outpatient Clinic.
